thetraditionalpointofviewinpsychology,onlyhumanbeingshavethinkingand

consciousness.Thisisbecausethinkingisthecoreofconsciousnessandconsciousnessmustbemediatedbylan2guage.Thestudiesofcognitiveneuroscienceonaphasicsshowthatconsciousnessandthinkingdonotcompletelydependuponlanguage.Aphasiacanonlyhaveaninfluenceontheextendedconsciousness.Itdoesnotimpairthecoreconsciousness.Evenwithouttheinvolvementoflanguage,theaphasicscouldstillgeneratesomekindsofnonverbalconsciousactivitieswithimages.Theresearchofcognitiveneurosciencechallengesthetraditionalpsy2chologicalideas:Consciousnessfunctionscanbebothunifiedandrelativelyindependent.Notonlyhumanbeingscanhaveconsciousness.Consciousnessisnotnecessarilybasedonlanguage.
