M: Well, I fell from a ladder this morning while painting my house, and I injured my foot when I landed in a paint can.
W: Did you put ice on it immediately after this happened? M: Yeah.
W: And so after you removed the paint can . . .
M: Well that’s part of the problem. Uh, the paint can is still on my foot. W: Oh, please come in today. I don’t think your case can wait.

M: Holly, is it possible to borrow your notes? I’ll return them tomorrow.
W: Sorry, but I usually go to the cafe and review them. Say, how about copying them over in the library? M: Okay, I think I’ve got enough coins for the machines. You’re a lifesaver, Holly!
W: No problem. But I don’t understand why you need my notes, Johnson; you haven’t missed any classes.
M: Weekday mornings, I’m a cashier at a coffee shop downtown. After work, I come directly to school!
W: Wow, you’re probably tired out!
M: That’s exactly why I want to borrow your notes; I’ve been sleeping during class, so my notes aren’t very good.
W: Well, here’s Professor Labelle; how you feeling?
M: I’m usually awake at the beginning. But thirty minutes into class, I’m having trouble keeping my eyes open.

W: Hi. How can I help you?
M: Yeah. I’d like to rent a mid-size car for three days.
W: Okay. Let me check to see if we have one available. Hm, we have a couple of economy and full-size cars available.
M: Well, what is the main difference between these cars?
W: The main difference is size. The economy car is the smallest, and it seats fewer passengers and can hold less luggage. How many people are with you? M: Just me and my son.
W: Well, the economy car would work. We have one right out front.
M: Where? That one? It looks more like a shoebox to me. I’m really tall . . .
W: Well, if you need more room or comfort, I recommend the full-size car. It also has a nice CD player, safety door locks, and power locks and windows.
M: Well, I’m not so concerned about how it’s equipped. I just want to make sure it is comfortable to drive. And what is the daily rate for that anyway? W: Well, let’s see here. Oh, yeah. It’ll come to fifty-seven ninety-five a day.

M: Hey, what’s up?

W: Ah, first of all, I put a dollar in the vending machine for a seventy-five cent candy bar, and the thing got stuck here in the machine. Then, I pressed the change button, and nothing happened. Nothing came out. The machine still owes me a quarter.
M: Well, did you talk to the cashier at the snack bar to see if he could give your money back? W: Yeah, I tried that, but he said he didn’t own the machine, and I’d have to call the phone number on the machine.
M: What a disappointing situation! Hey, I have an idea. Why don’t we rock the machine back and forth until the candy bar falls?
W: I don’t want to be responsible for breaking the machine, and besides, someone might call the policeman.
