第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题; 每小题2分,满分30分)
A
In order to know a foreign language entirely, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must hear it spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves correctly , with confidence and without
hesitation(犹豫). Thirdly, we must be able to read the language and fourthly, we must know how to arrange sentences in paragraphs,so as to write a good composition.
There is no easy way to succeed in language learning. A good memory is a great help, but it is not
enough simply to learn rules by heart from a grammar book. It is no use learning by heart long lists of words and their meanings. We must learn words not by themselves, but in sentences. We must learn by using the language. “Learn through use” is a good piece of advice for those who are studying a new language. Practice is very important. We must practice speaking and writing the language whenever we can.
56. The writer advises us to .
A. speak and write more B. read more C. speak more D. use a dictionary 57. Words should be learned in a . A. dictionary
B. textbook
C. sentence B
People realize that, although animals may not have the same intelligence as human beings, they are smart enough to learn certain things.
Dogs are extremely useful as companions for blind people. When a dog has been properly trained, he will always lead his blind master in the right direction and keep him out of danger. For example, seeing-eye dogs learn never to cross a busy road when cars are coming, even if their master ordered them to do so.
Horses are also able to learn many things. Horses that are used for guard or police duty must learn never to be frightened of noises, traffic, and other disturbances. Racing horses are able to run much faster than other horses, but they are also quite high strung (易紧张). Therefore, it is necessary for those people who train them to be very patient and understanding.
The moving pictures and television can use trained animals too. Some animals, such as monkeys and foxes, are easy to film. All you have to do is make a trail in front of the camera by dragging something that smells good to the animals over the ground. Big animals, such as lions and tigers, can be photographed as they bound happily back to their families and dinner. If a movie actor is nearby, the well-trained animal will pay no attention to him. However, the audience may imagine that the actor escaped a terrible death by the skin of his teeth.
58. Dogs who help blind people must learn .
A. to obey all orders B. to obey only safe orders
C. never to cross roads D. to cross road when ordered to do so 59. Race horses are hard to train because they are .
A. faster than other horses B. smaller than other horses
D. good grammar book
C. clever than other horse D. more nervous than other horses 60. What does “make a trail” mean here in the last paragraph?
A. place something to attract the animal B. give the animal a certain task C. order the animal to do things

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Air pollution is a major risk factor for heart disease, and women with diabetes (糖尿病) may be more likely to be influenced by its effects than others, a long-term U.S. study said Wednesday.
The study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, found that women with diabetes who are exposed (暴露) to air pollution for long periods may have a much higher risk for heart disease.
“We didn?t expect diabetes to be the strongest factor in determining susceptibility (敏感性),” said the lead author Jaime Hart, an epidemiologist at the Boston-based Brigham and Women?s Hospital and Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
“We looked at age, family history of heart disease, weight, smoking status and areas of the country but diabetes was the most consistent across diseases and across different size fractions of particulate matter (PM),” Hart said.
The research team explored data from more than 100,000 participants in a long-term study called the Nurses? Health Study, looking at rates of heart disease, specifically rates of stroke.
They assessed long-term exposure to three different sizes of particulate matter air pollution from 1989 to 2006: Fine particulate pollutant smaller than 2.5 thousandths of a millimeter in diameter (PM2.5), PM10 and PM2.5-10. PM10 includes both PM2.5 and PM2.5-10.
While all women had small increases in risk of heart events with more air pollution exposure, the increased risk was statistically significant for women with diabetes.
According to the team, an increase of 10 micrograms per cubic meter of air pollution in PM2.5, PM2.5-10 and PM 10 will raise a woman?s risk of heart disease by 44 percent, 17 percent and 19 percent, separately, if she had type 2 diabetes.
The team found that these effects were greater among women 70 and older and obese women. Since the study participants were mostly white women of middle- and upper-socioeconomic status,
D. follow the animal to hunt
further research will be needed to determine if these patterns are also seen in men and in racially and socioeconomically diverse populations, they added.
61. According to the study, women with diabetes may be more likely to be affected by_______. A. a risk factor B. air pollution C. heart disease D. areas 62. Which of the following was not involved in the study? A. Age.
B. Weight. C. Height. D. Smoking status.
63. What can we learn from the passage?
A. It is not necessary to do further research on men.
B. Air pollution puts women with diabetes at higher heart risk. C. Most participants were women who were over 70 years old. D. The increase of PM per cubic meter has no effect on women?s health. 64. In a newspaper, this passage is most probably in the part of _______. A. Travel B. Technology C. Health
D
Dear Max,
Your mother and I don?t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You?ve already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.
Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today. While newspapers often focus on what?s wrong, in many ways the world is getting better. Health is improving. The number of poor families is decreasing. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting. Technological progress in every field means your life should be much better than ours today.
We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, but also because we have a responsibility to all children in the next generation. We believe all lives have equal value. Our society has its duty to improve the lives of all those coming into this world, not just those already here.
Today, most people die from five things — heart disease, cancer, stroke, neurodegenerative and infectious diseases — and we can make faster progress on these and other problems. Once we recognize that your generation and your children?s generation may not have to suffer from disease, we collectively have a responsibility to increase our investments (投资) a bit more towards the future to make this reality. Your mother and I want to do our part. Curing disease will take time. Over short periods of five or ten years,
D. Fashion
it may not seem like we?re making much of a difference. But over the long term, seeds planted now will grow, and one day, you or your children will see what we can only imagine: a world without suffering from disease.
There are so many opportunities just like this. If society focuses more of its energy on these great challenges, we will leave your generation a much better world. Our hopes for your generation focus on two ideas: advancing human potential (潜能) and equality. Our society must do this not only for justice or charity, but for the greatness of human progress.
Today your mother and I are devoted to spending our lives doing our small part to help solve these challenges. I, Zuckerberg, will continue to serve as Facebook?s CEO for many, many years to come, but these things are too important to wait until you or we are older to begin this work.
We will give away 99% of our Facebook shares — now about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these matters. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.
As we become parents and enter this next chapter(篇章)of our lives, we want to share our deep appreciation for everyone who makes this possible. We can make progress towards these opportunities only by standing on the shoulders of experts. And we can only focus on serving this community and this mission because we are surrounded by loving family, supportive friends and amazing colleagues. We hope you will have such deep and inspiring relationships in your life too.
Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can?t wait to see what you bring to this world.
Love, Mom and Dad
65. When might the letter be written?

A. people?s health is improving B. poor families become fewer than before C. technology makes progress in few fields D. people communicate with others more 67. Why does Zuckerberg want to increase investments towards the future?
A. Because he is the CEO of Facebook company. B. Because he is devoted to helping those who are poor. C. Because he hopes that his daughter will live a rich life. D. Because he hopes future generations won?t suffer from diseases. 68. The writer?s attitude towards life is _______. A. positive

Recently, a primary school in Xiangyang, Hubei province has added square dancing to their curriculum, which caused a heated discussion in our school. Students have different views on it.
70% of the students are in favor of it, holding that not only can square dancing help them relax themselves but also it can make them have a slim figure. What?s more, music dance combined with physical exercise is a good way for teenagers to get into shape. However, 30% of the students have the opposite opinion that square dancing is the dance of Dama, which requires less energy. Thus, it is not a good choice for them. On a personal note, I have strong desire to learn square dancing with classmates in school, for traditional gymnastics is too boring to inspire the students? enthusiasm for working out. In addition, students can learn to cooperate with each other. Maybe this would be a way to build the school spirit with an activity that many students enjoy.(151words)
