A Green Party Movement
At half past six in the morning, while most schoolchildren are sleeping in bed, Li Hongyu, a 13-year-old schoolboy has begun his busiest hour in the day.
He gets up, swallows his breakfast and rushes to the dustbins beside the gate of his community. Four other playmates are waiting for him there to check the rubbish and to ensure it is sorted correctly.
A movement of sorting rubbish has already started to help improve the environment of the community. The Property Management Center of the community has done a lot to change people’s habits. Almost all of the buildings are equipped with three dustbins. Green bins for kitchen waste, blue bins for recyclable materials and gray bins for other waste.
All have clear labels. Besides, the staff of the Property Management Center have handed out rubbish-sorting brochures and explained the advantages of sorting rubbish house to house. However, it’s not easy to change people’s habits. Tins and empty bottles, which belong to recyclable material, are often seen in the bins of kitchen waste.
To solve this problem, people in this community have volunteered to take part in this movement. One of them is the little schoolboy, Li Hongyu. They are divided into groups to check the rubbish left by the people at different spots. “It’s hard work but it is worthwhile, because it will help protect our environment. And I believe people will get used to it soon,” said Li Hongyu. “I hope every one can join us in this Green Party Movement, and that’s my dream.” 1.
