However, an editorial accompanying the study in The Lancet noted that it had the largest population so far in happiness studies and praised its statistical methods.
Professor Peto said he doubted whether the new study would change many minds because beliefs about the risks of unhappiness are so rooted. “People are still going to believe that stress causes heart attacks,” he said.

Editor's note:China is the top country of origin for international students in the US, with more than 274,000 Chinese students reportedly accounting for 31percent of all international students at US universities. Many Chinese parents save up a lot of money for their children to pursue an overseas education. Is it worth spending big to study abroad? You are welcome to leave your comments.
Arsa(Russia):I went to study abroad when I was 17. First year was a total waste as I met plenty of Russian students in my collage and we spent most of our time shopping and hanging

out at cafes. It wasn't until two years later that I realized that my English hadn't improved.I changed my mindset entirely and started studying hard.I ended up staying in UK for 10 years, which opened a lot of doors and introduced me to great people,so I'm all for studying abroad. Truth(US):There is an assumption that American education is the best in the word,so Chinese parents are pushing their kids to American collages. And some are even sending their children overseas at junior or high school level. I often think this is a mistake as the education a Chinese child gets in a foreign country is very different from what they are used to and they often struggle Some students have trouble understanding their lecturers and their assignments keep coming back with poor scores. that their children can receive the best education despite heavy financial burdens. People’s opinions on this vary. (31 words)
I think it makes good sense to send children to study abroad for the following reasons. First, when studying abroad, children are exposed to a different culture, which will help broaden their horizons and provide them with a chance to improve their foreign language. Second, living apart from their family, children can learn to adapt to the new environment and live on their own. Last but not the least, faced with fierce competition in a job market, a person owning a foreign diploma can have an edge over others.
In summary, it goes without saying that studying abroad is an excellent experience from which children can benefit a lot, so if possible, children should make the most of the great chance. (151 words) (反对)More and more Chinese parents prefer to send their children to study abroad, assuming that their children can receive the best education despite heavy financial burdens. People’s opinions on this vary. (31 words)
I don’t think it is a wise option to send children to foreign countries for education, especially those at junior or senior level. For one thing, we have good universities in China where students can receive an equally good education and therefore owning a foreign diploma doesn’t necessarily mean an edge over others in hunting for jobs. For another, so high is the tuition that not every family can afford it. Besides, finding it hard to adapt to the new environment, some students feel depressed or even drop out without achieving anything.
Whether to send children to study abroad is a vital decision worthy of careful consideration. It is not where to study but how to study well that really makes a difference. (154 words)

M: What visits are planned for this term?
W: Well, I’m afraid the schedule hasn’t been printed out yet, but we have confirmed the dates and planned the optional extra visits which you can also book in advance if you want to.
M: Oh, that’s right. Text 2
W: When was the last time you took out cash from an ATM? M: Uh, three or four days ago, I guess.
W: That’s what I thought. Hmm, that’s strange. I thought we had more money in our checking account. I’ll call the bank and find out what’s going on. Text 3
W: How can I help you?
M: I understand that the school organizes? umm, trips to different?
W: Yes, we run five every month; three during weekends and two Wednesday afternoon trips. Text 4

M: Hello! May I speak to Mrs. Arnold? W: Speaking.
M: This is Sparkly Company. You are one of the lucky housewives chosen to receive our free soap.
W: That’s very nice of you. But I’d rather go on using what I’ve always used. Thanks just the same. 第二节: Text 6
M: Julie, did you cook something for breakfast this morning? W: Yes, I did. Why do you ask? M: I think you left the stove on. W: Oh, no. Was there any damage?
M: The frying pan overheated, and the handle got damaged, but nothing serious happened. But please try to be more mindful in the future. It could have been a disaster. W: I’m really sorry. It won’t happen again.
M: Also, one of the neighbor’s dogs keeps leaving his mess in our yard. W: Oh, that’s Maria’s dog. I’ll talk to her about it. M: Thanks. Text 7

M: Good afternoon. This is Frank Stone. I want to make an appointment with Doctor Milton,
please.
W: OK, Mr. Stone. We have you on our records. Can you manage this afternoon? M: I’m afraid not. I can manage tomorrow.
W: I’m afraid Mr. Milton is not on duty tomorrow. He’ll be here the day after tomorrow. That’s Thursday, March 27th. M: Fine.

W: We start from 9:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. We don’t work at the weekend. M: I’d prefer a later time so that I can come along after work. W: Then what about 6:15? M: Well, that’s fine. Text 8

M: Ok! Ok! You know, I hate to see women sitting down all day with their heads buried in their hands.
W: Do you want me to put my needlework away? M: You bet!
W: I am putting forth a lot of effort to make this table cloth. You always complain about whatever you see me doing. I can’t put up with your constant criticism anymore. M: I’m sorry sweetie. Please forgive my bad temper. I was putting a machine together today, and I had problems with it. I am tired. Will you please forgive me? W: This time I will, but please don’t put me down any more.
M: Honey, I’ve put aside some money that I earned by doing some extra mechanical work. Would you like to go out to dinner tonight, just the two of us?
W: How exciting! I’ll take a shower and put on my best dress. Oh, here’s an advertisement for that new Italian restaurant in the shopping mall.
M: Mmm! Look at these photographs. They put me in the mood for Italian food. Would you like to try this new place? W: Can we afford it?
M: Don’t worry! We can manage. Payday is tomorrow. Text 9

M: Well, any luck? Did you see Buster anywhere?
W: No, I couldn’t find him, either. I drove all around the neighborhood. I circled our block three times, hoping he’d show up. No such luck. I’m sorry, Ben.
M: It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have left the door open. I hope we’ll find him. He is such a huge part of our family. He walks with Lily to school every morning.
W: I’m sure we’ll find him, Ben. I remember when I lost my dog Spot. We looked for ten hours, and finally we just gave up. Not long after we got home, Spot showed up at our front door. They know how to get home, Ben. They always do.
M: I hope you’re right, Lucy. Maybe he’ll show up before it gets dark. I just hope he’s okay.
W: He will be, Ben. He has always been loyal to you and your family. He’s probably just off exploring. M: If you say so. Let’s walk up Forest Avenue and see if maybe he’s hiding in Mr. Johnson’s yard. He always likes to bark and chase his cat around there.
W: That’s a good idea! See, we’ll find him before you know it. You have nothing to be worried about. Text 10
The only bear to have been living in the wild in Switzerland, known as M13, was recently shot dead in the mountains near the Italian border. The brown bear had become dangerous because he regularly looked for food in busy areas, including a school, and had started following people during the day. The creature also showed little fear of humans despite several attempts to get it away from villages. He had been called a “problem bear” back in November, 2012, but he had never showed any actual aggression toward people before the shooting. Some nature groups said that wildlife officers should have continued efforts to make him more frightened of humans before making the decision to shoot him.
On February 18, eight men wearing masks and carrying guns drove two cars through a fence at Brussels International Airport, sped toward a waiting aircraft, and stole $50 million worth of diamonds. The robbery took only three minutes from start to finish. The men wore clothing that looked like police uniforms, and they appeared to be professionals.
The tiny island of Guam(关岛) has finally found a way to deal with its snake problem. The U.S. will take thousands of dead mice, give them poison, and drop them on the island in an attempt to kill some of the island’s two million Brown Tree Snakes. The snakes are responsible for killing off the island’s entire native bird population, biting residents, and even knocking out electricity by climbing onto power lines.
