Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear 2 passages in English.（略） Passage 1:

The work team system plays an increasingly important role in large U.S. organizations. It places a new premium on the relationship of team members. In fact, emphasis on teamwork has long become the most frequently valued managerial competence. About half the Fortune 500 companies say they are using self-managed work teams and expect to expand their use in coming years. ∥

Generating a team of high compatibility requires excellent public relation expertise. Some people never get out of the individual \-thinking\mode because they have limited expertise with the interpersonal skills required for team-building. But the highly-effective people of success are those who move from child-like dependence to independence, and then onto interdependence, or win-win, \

Passage 2:

I have been asked on many occasions what impact the Internet will have on the global use of English. As everybody present here today knows, the Internet epitomizes the information society, allowing the transfer of services, expertise and intellectual capital across the world cheaply, rapidly and apparently without pollution or environmental damage.∥

At present, 90% of Internet hosts are based in English-speaking countries. It is not surprising, therefore, that the majority of traffic and the majority of Web sites are based in English and that those users based in other countries, who normally work in other languages, find they have to communicate with others in the cyberspace community through the medium of English.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear 2 passages in Chinese. （略） Passage 1:

中国实行全面的对外开放的政策，中国不仅对社会主义国家开放，也对资本主义国家开放，不仅对发展中国家开放，也对发达国家开放。中国与发达国家的经济合作，在进口技术设备、吸引外资和扩大对外贸易等方面取得了很大的进展。∥

中国与发展中国家的经济技术合作也开辟了新的广阔的前景。在继续向一些国家提供援助的同时，中国通过合资经营、技术服务和补偿贸易等形式开展互惠互利的经济合作，取长补短，互通有无。

Passage 2:

女士们，先生们，晚上好。首先请允许我代表上海市政府对史密斯先后的来访表示热烈的欢迎。中美两国都是大国。自建以来，虽然两国政府在某些问题上曾有过分歧，但是双方能充分考虑到两国人民的利益并作出了明智的决定。∥

去年，美国政府已决定给中国永久性的最惠国待遇，把人权问题和最惠国待遇区分开来，我认为这是非常明智的。这个决定有助于促进两国经济贸易的发展，为两国人民创造更多的就业机会提供了良好的条件。
