过去进行时与过去一般时
1) I read a book yesterday. (书已看完) I was reading a book yesterday.(书尚未看完) 2) The guests arrived.(客人已到) The guests were arriving.(客人陆续到达) 3) He woke from a dream. (表示全醒) He was waking from a dream.(表示初醒)
4) The old man died.(已死) The old man was dying.(要死) 5) John told me about it.(告诉我了,我都知道了)
John was telling me about it.(跟我谈起过,我想了解更多的事情) 6) They persuaded me to go along with them.(已经说服) They were persuading me to go along with them.(还在劝说) 7) The wind blew hard all night.(强调事实)
The wind was blowing hard all night.(强调风刮个不停)
8) I expected you. I was expecting you.(客气,表示可能等了很旧了) 9) He knocked at the door.(强调一次性) He was knocking at the door.(强调多次性) 过去进行时基本用法
过去进行时表示过去某一时间正在进行的动作。过去进行时和一般过去时一样，也常和表过去的时间状语连用。
如：I was practising the Violin at eight yesterday evening. 昨天晚上八点钟我在练小提琴来着。
如果时间状语是一时段，过去进行时所表示的动作则须贯穿整个时段或大部分时间。
如：While we were having breakfast,John was talking on the phone. 我们在吃早饭的时候，约翰在打电话。
过去进行时可用来打开话头。这种过去进行时也多与时间状语连用。
如：We were talking about you this morning . Your book is terrible. 我们今天早上谈论你来着。你写的书糟透了。

过去进行时还可以表过去的过去，过去的将来和现在的将来
如：The boy who was standing there run away. 刚才站在那里的那个男孩跑了。
He quickly swallowed the food he was chewing 他很快的将所咀嚼的食物咽了下去。
Was it next Sunday they were coming? 他们说是下个星期天来吗？
He asked the organization to reduce his salary to the original amount he was receiving. 他要求组织将他的工资减少到原来的水平。
句型
肯定句：主语+was/were+doing+其它 否定句：主语+was/were+not+doing+其它
一般疑问句及答语：Was/Were+主语+doing+其它 答语：Yes,I was./No,I wasn't. 特殊疑问句：特殊疑问词+was/were+主语+doing+其它 过去进行时vs一般过去时 都强调过去发生的事 进行时强调过程，不一定完成 过去时强调事件，一定完成
p,s表示一个动作正在进行时，另一个动作发生了 如：He played when I was studying. 不用于进行时的动词
感官动词：hear,see,notice,feel,taste…… 表示态度感情的动词：like,love,hate…… 表心理状态：feel,want,prefer…… 表占有：own,have,……
表存在状态和持续：look,owe,be……
