摘要：凯瑟琳·曼斯菲尔德的短篇小说《布里尔小姐》是短篇小说中的艺术精品。她突破

现实主义小说的传统写法，采用重心理，轻情节的写作方式，将笔触深入主人公的心灵深处，细腻地刻画了她一个下午在公园的情感历程，将人物性格生动立体地展现在读者面前。本文旨在分析布里尔小姐的性格特征。深入解析小说人物性格对欣赏作品本身的魅力，挖掘社会情境和揭露社会现实具有重要意义。 关键词:性格，感知，想象，脆弱

Abstract：Miss Brill by Catherine Mansfield is one of the top works in the field of short

novels.The author has discarded the traditional rigid writing styles of realistic novels,adopting to attach great importance to the movements of protagonist’s consciousness,and much less to the plot.By this way,the distinct ,vivid and round characters have been presented before the readers.This paper aims to deeply analyze Miss Brill’s manifold characters,which is significant for appreciating great novels,unearthing the social backgrounds and revealing social realities.

Introduction：There are already a lot of works studying Miss Brill from numerous

perspectives,revealing the themes of loneliness,cruel reality,nonchalant human hearts and so on.But much less works are to analyze the Protagonist’s characters in depth.Consequently,the analysis of Miss Brill’s characters intrigues me very much.And I am sure that the analysis or study from this perspective is as significant as studies in other aspects.What has been depicted in the story is that Miss Brill rummaged out her treasured fur,and tidied it carefully with interest and dialogued with herself.Then,she went to the park as usual with the same purposes---eavesdropped people’s conversations by her side,enjoy the band’s performance and so on.All of these,her dialogues,moods,inner world movements,opinions upon the people in the garden,can reflect Miss Brill’s abundant and manifold character traits.This paper will analyze Miss Brill’s characters majorly from her external appearance,languages,behaviors,and internal consciousness streaming,her opinions about the outside world,and the like. 1.Characters From External performance 1.1The Languages

From the languages of Miss Brill,the readers can feel that she is a lovely and affable.In the first paragraph of this short novel,Miss Brill took out her fur.After shaking out the moth powder and giving it a good brush,she said to herself in the small room “What has been happening to me?” .Obviously,she was imitating the tone of her fox fur which was called “little rogue”by her.From this point,readers can see Miss Brill’s young,and optimistic attitude for life. 1.2The behaviors

According to Miss Brill’s behaviors,she is an old lady fond of observing the various kinds of people in the garden , their dress,their talks,their behaviors and so on.She felt that that afternoon’s concert was not as usual,more people,more formal,and the conductor wearing a new coat.She
