XuanwuXuanwu is a turtle and snake into a spiritual matter. Xuanwu had in mind was Xuan ming, Wu, Ming ancient pronunciation is the same. Weapons, meaning black; offerings, is the meaning of yin. Xuan ming was originally described on turtle at stake, will answer back, display to the world as a bu. Due to later, Xuan Ming means continuously expanding. Turtles live in rivers (including turtles), Xuan Ming became the water God; turtle longevity, Xuan Ming became a symbol of immortality; initial offerings in the North, Shang dynasty Oracle bone divination that is "Bu will it North to", so Xuan Ming became God of the North.
